5 out of 5 stars electricity monitor   December 27, 2008
This is a great product. Plug it in and it works. I have created a monster with my husband who is using it on everything in the house from electric blankets to the refrigerator. It is very interesting to see what uses the most electricity (and money!)

5 out of 5 stars Kill-A-Watt Does Just What It Claims   December 26, 2008

I received my electric bill a couple of months ago and nearly fainted due to the fact that it had more than doubled! I had seen one of these gadgets somewhere before, but sloughed it off as something I didn't require. I was wrong! Since the power company increased the base price for killowatts lately as well, I decided to do an Internet search and find the Kill-A-Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor. As usual, I quickly found it at Amazon.com, with several choices of vendors and prices. I found the EZ model which is the most bang for the buck. Simply put, I was able to enter the exact amount my power company is charging per killowatt hour, and discover just which appliances in my home were the most cost efficent to run. I was also able to see which appliances were the energy sucking culprits that caused such an increase in my power bill! The unit displays the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly cost to run electric appliances. The device also takes into consideration the idle periods in which appliances are not being used. I used a power strip and attached many of my appliances to it. With the Kill-A-Watt installed before all of them, I was able to get a realistic idea as to the consumption of certain key appliances operating in unison on a monthly basis, factoring in their idle periods as well. All in all, this device is very efficent, and is a MUST in penny-pinching households such as mine. The price range for the same exact unit varies greatly, so be careful. For spending around $30.00 at Amazon.com, I will have saved hundreds of dollars of electricity costs in the year to come.

I got it to see if things I kept on were a drain and costly. It's not as useful as you would expect and usability if not great from an interface perspective. now after 1 day of use, mine will sit in a box with other gadgets.

5 out of 5 stars Kill A Watt Power Usage Monitor Tells All!   December 22, 2008
I'm using the 4460 to learn how much power each of my household appliances is using. I'm hoping the results will tell me whether or not I need to replace any appliances or devices. So far the results are great. All I had to do was enter our KWH rate from ComEd and plug the device in. It tracks how long it has been monitoring an appliance and measures the power usage. After a number of days of monitoring - the longer the better - it projects the cost per day, per week, per month, and per year.

The only problem I had is that when it was connected to a microwave oven the 4460 would beep for a while whenever the oven began to operate. The operating manual doesn't describe this condition, but I think it may be related to a low voltage condition, based on the voltage display at the time. I need to place a call to the company to see if they have an answer.

Although I cannot guarantee it's accuracy, I find the unit very handy and easy to use. My one complaint is that some of the LCD information near the edge is difficult to read. I would like to see the font size for that information increased. A back-lit LCD panel would be a big improvement.
A hard-wired extension cable would make the unit easier to use especially when you have to get behind a refrigerator. I got around this by adding a six foot extension cable.
