1 out of 5 stars Buy at your salon   December 30, 2008

The product is great. But I am only giving one star because if you purchase through Amazon.com, the lifetime warranty is void. Meaning, if your product stops working, Farouk will not replace it.

I would suggest buying it from Ulta or some other store like that. It may be more expensive, but at least you have that warranty.

The risk is yours.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely go CHI   December 29, 2008
I never thought I'd say it, but it's definitely worth the CHI iron. I have had several flat irons, and this one is by far the best. My hair is much shinier and smooth and with the heat of this iron, it get's done much more quickly. I highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Used the Chi for 8 months, then it broke, and it damaged my hair.   December 29, 2008

I purchased a Chi from Amazon in April of 2008. Yes, it works....it is extremely hot and could probably straighten a piece of twisted, military-grade steel. Before using the Chi, my hair was very healthy and strong. It still is, but only because of all the extra products I've had to use on my hair to protect it from the Chi. Still, there are places in my hair that are dry and brittle and prone to breakage because of the Chi. And, when I would use the Chi, you could literally smell my hair burning inside it. Not nice.

Eight months after using it, it shut itself off mid-use and never came back on again. So, I bought a less-expensive Hot Tools flat iron from the local salon store. This particular iron has an actual temperature control, and I can use the lowest setting and still achieve the same results, with no burning hair smell. Only time will tell if the more fragile parts of my hair will heal.

The Chi will damage your hair. I doubt any serum or spray or whatever will adequately protect it. I can barely touch the outside of the unit without burning my fingers. Just be careful, and never use it more than 2-3 times a week.

5 out of 5 stars Daughter loves it!!   December 28, 2008

1 out of 5 stars Bought twice broke both times   December 28, 2008

I usually don't write reviews, but after buying this item two times and it breaking both times I felt the need to share my experience. The first time I bought this item, for the first 5 months I loved it. Then for no reason at all one of the gold metal pieces that heats up popped out and I could never get it to stay again. I was so bummed. I thought maybe it was a fluke and because up until that point I loved it, I thought I would try again. Bad mistake. This time it lasted 4 monthe before the metal piece again popped out. The same exact problem I had before. I am in the process of hopefully returning it, but I am not going to hold my breath. I can tell you I will never buy this product again. [...] buck down the drain. Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron
