My previous razor was a braun (8595?) so I was excited to see an "upgraded" razor from Braun come out. Price was steep but found a good deal on Amazon. Initial response was lukewarm because it felt "less durable" then my previous razor. . . but performance is excellent. Definitely gives a real close shave without the skit irritation / hassle of using a razor/foam. Only time will tell if the construction of this razor will hold up. Still have my "older" braun but don't plan to use it unless absolutely necessary!!
 Disappointed January 6, 2009
This item said that it gave a close shave and is supposed to be one of the best out there. My fiance tried it for 2-3 weeks like the box suggests but he still does not get a close shave. Very disappointed.

I bought this as a gift for my husband for Christmas. He has been shaving with a razor forever and decided to try an electric razor. This seemed the best product with the best reviews out there. He tried it twice and both times it would give a close shave in some patches but most spots(the neck) there was still stubble. He was disappointed that it was not as close a shave as using a razor. He wanted to return the product and just continue using his regular razor. We contacted Amazon and they said we couldn't return it because it had been used at least once, well, this was a 200$ product so we then had to go and sell it on Ebay to get back some of our money.
Needless to say this was an expensive try at shaving with an electric shaver.

The Braun 790cc Pulsonic Shaver completely eradicated my opinion that it is impossible to get a close shave with an electric shaver. I've had electric shavers in the past, Norelco rotaries and Panasonic wet/dry shavers, and none of them ever gave me a satisfyingly close shave. They would also irritate my skin, because I'd end up going back over and over my beard, trying to get the darn thing to shave closer.
This Braun however, shaves me closer than I ever thought was possible without using a blade. It shaves close with just a couple of passes, even under my chin and on my neck, which have always been my problem areas. It does so without pulling and yanking the hairs too (another lovely characteristic of my past shavers). No, it's not as close as a blade, but it almost is; and it won't leave your skin chaffed or knicked as can happen when using a blade. Bottom line is, you can't get a closer more comfortable shave with any other electric shaver. And the self-cleaning function leaves this baby feeling brand new every time you use it. It's worth it's price!

In setting the rating (number of stars), I had a bit of a quandary: IF I were rating it against all the other electric razors I have ever had, I would give it all 5 stars. However, I am rating it against what I would like to see as an ideal razor, which I guess does not exist. The ideal razor would shave as close as a blade WITHOUT requiring multiple passes over one's skin. This one falls far short of that. However, I have had Remington and Norelco in the past, and this one beats them significantly, both in ability to handle a tough beard and in comfort.
I have had this razor for only about 2 weeks now, so can't say anything about longevity. IF you have a wimpy beard, you may be happy with a much less expensive razor. If you have a tough beard and have been frustrated by other razors (and if you are not expecting perfection), I do highly recommend this razor.
