Not good if you'r a beginner January 7, 2009 This is not what I expected, I was pretty dissapointed. I guess if you'r not new to step aerobics then you would enjoy it. I think they were going way to fast for beginners like me. Hopefully once I get the hang of it, I will enjoy it. I do think they should have a seperate dvd for beginners to use. :(
Versatile, sturdy, decent price. December 26, 2008 The TransFIRMer is a very versatile product. You can use it for step aerobics and for strength training using either body weight or free weights. There are two platforms (6 inch and 8 inch) which can be used individually. They can also be stacked on top of each other, or the top platform can be stacked at an incline. It also comes with three different workout DVDs, which demonstrate different ways to use the TransFIRMer. Additional workout DVDs are available separately.
The product is pretty sturdy (it will hold me securely without buckling with 25 lb dumbbells in each hand) and does not slip, even on my bare basement floor. At the same time, it's light and easy to move around. The surfaces of the platforms have grips so that my feet don't slip while using it.
I looked for an aerobic step for a long time, mostly so that I could use it for leg strength exercises. The others that I looked into (for instance, Reebok models) were not as versatile in terms of height, and were also much more expensive. They did not come with workout DVDs. If you are looking for a versatile step that you can use for a total body workout, as well as some DVDs to demonstrate how to do that, this is a good product - and the price is right.
The DVDs themselves are fun. You can make the workouts pretty challenging, and the DVDs are all set to upbeat music. Just be aware that you need some dumbbells and an abs/yoga mat, which are not included. If you are a beginner, soup cans or filled water bottles can substitute for light dumbbells. A beach towel, folded over a few times, can substitute for the abs mat.
Kicking my butt, literally!! December 8, 2008 I am a FIRM exercise video fan from the beginning. These videos as well as the step up boxes provide a 'kick-butt' great workout. I really wanted a change of pace and got it along with the FIRM quality I am spoiled by. Amazon also delivered in record time - less than a week! All good!
works great November 25, 2008 We are using this for a duel purpose. It is a good exercise stepper, but also a great portable step stool for our van.
Versatile, a great fitness value November 23, 2008 I've long been a fan of thr Firm, but the older versions of their "tall box" seemed unstable because they were square, and easily tipped over. This TransFirmer box is not only a sturdy 14" tall box but provides usable and relatively light wieght 6" and 8" stepping platforms, too. I love the incline stepping option. I only wish there were more good DVDs on the market to utilize it.
