| Customer Reviews:
Cupcake maker tricky for kids to use. January 6, 2009 I give this cupcake maker three stars because my daughter loves it. But, only buy it if it's on sale as it's not a great value at full retail. I was reluctant to purchase this toy because of all the bad reviews but because Santa hates to disappoint good little girls, we have this toy.
When using it for the first time, we experienced the problems most other reviewers did. This toy may be really hard and frustrating for younger kids to use without help from an adult. That said, it's still fun if you keep a few things in mind. The cupcake batter should be like thick cake batter. Microwave for 30-35 seconds - don't overcook. The icing needs to be like dough - not like frosting. This may be hard to achieve as the frosting mix has hard lumps that only extra water can break up. Smoosh the packet before you open it to break up some lumps. If the frosting is not like dough you'll never get it into the holder and it will be a sticky mess on the cupcake. Plus, don't forget, a little packet of frosting only makes enough for one cupcake! You only get ONE shot at it - don't add too much water. The swirl will not be perfect like on TV but it will not be icky and drippy. A better solution is to use canned frosting that has been chilled in the fridge. The chilled canned frosting is cheaper, the right thickness and you'll get a few trys to make the coveted swirl. On that same note, mix up a box of "Jiffy" cake mix for your cupcakes. It will still cook in the microwave and you can make a half dozen cupcakes for like 60 cents instead of the 7 dollars a refill kit costs!
Fun Baking January 6, 2009 My granddaughter likes this product very much and has successfully baked a few good cupcakes. I'm not sure about the durability of this toy, however, she takes care of her toys and this may be the reason. Hence, five stars.
Very Disappointing January 4, 2009 I have to agree with all of the previous written reviews. This product is a very big disappointment. This was purchased for my seven year old daughter as a Christmas gift. I wish we would have read the reviews! First the cupcakes do not look like the ones on the box after baked. Trying to put the icing in a tube no bigger than one used for medicine is a treat! Although we "slowly" pressed the icing down in the tube, frosting went everywhere when it spins back after you are done. We only decorated one cupcake and that was enough to know that it would be much easier to teach my daughter how to decorate cupcakes with a store bought mix and a Wilton decorating kit! Really not worth the money or time for this product. It was a very big disappoint me to me and my daughter.
My daughter loves it, but.... January 4, 2009 My 5 year old loves this toy but the frosting just makes us LOL. We keep trying to get it to come out right and have to keep eating our cupcakes even if they aren't as pretty as they look on the box. She's learing how to read the directions, experiment with recipes and have fun even if the toy isn't perfect.
Total waste of money!!!! January 4, 2009 This cupcake maker was one of the only things she asked Santa for this year so I got it for her. I wish I had read all of these reviews before totally wasting my money on this piece of junk! Icing EVERYWHERE and the cupcakes are AWFUL! For the amount of time and work I have to put into doing this with my daughter, I could have made a dozen cupcakes with a regular mix and they would have at least been edible. We have used it a few times and I hope to never use it again. I don't think I could even sell it at a garage sale in good faith!
