Amazon.com Product Description
The Omron HJ-112 Pocket Pedometer is an advanced, high-tech pedometer that--thanks to unique dual sensor technology--can be carried in your pocket or bag. Now you can just drop your pedometer in your purse to find out how much exercise you get in a typical day of work, errands, and other tasks. Of course, you can also attach it to your belt like a traditional pedometer.

A large, easy-to-read display helps you keep tabs on your workout. View larger.
The HJ-112 accurately measures your steps, as well as aerobic steps and minutes. You can also use it to measure calorie consumption during your workout, as well as the distance you've traveled.

The device's large, easy-to-read LCD display can separately display aerobic steps and minutes walked more than 10 minutes continuously, so you always have the information you need right in front of you. Meanwhile, a seven day history lets you review a full week of exercise. The device also resets at midnight automatically so it's ready to go every morning. Of course, the device can also function as a handy and highly accurate clock. It also comes with a detachable belt holder and security strap so it's always close at hand.

The HJ-112 is powered by a replaceable lithium battery (CR2032) that will last six months when used for walking 10,000 steps a day. The device measures approximately 2.8 x 2.1 x .6 inches (H x W x D) and weighs 1.1 ounces (not including battery).

Q&A - Pedometers
Does it matter where the pedometer is placed or attached?
The HJ-150 and 151 Pedometer must be positioned correctly. Attach the unit to your belt or to the top of your waistband. The unit must be horizontal to the ground in order for the unit to function correctly. The HJ-112 and HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer can also be placed in your pocket or purse.
What's the accuracy rate of Omron pedometers?
The precision of the step counting is within +/- 5%.
What are moderate steps?
At least 30 minutes of moderate exercise is recommended each day. The HJ-151 Pedometer separately displays the steps and minutes walked at a moderate pace.
What are aerobic steps?
The HJ-112 and HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer separately displays aerobic steps and minutes that start counting after 10 minutes of continuous walking with more than 60 steps a minute.
How does the PC software work?
The HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer includes PC software for Windows 2000 or XP. It keeps track of daily, weekly, monthly and yearly progress.

4 out of 5 stars It may be a little pricy but i would gladly pay it again.   September 4, 2008
I have tried the "cheaper" pedometers and almost gave up because of the constant inacuracy. Even after setting the stride level and such the other meters would count going to the restroom or bumping against something. The Omron meter is the most accurate meter I've run across. I love how it also counts areobic steps so you have an even MORE accurate idea of how much exercise your really getting. If something happens to mine; I will buy another one exactly like this. The old saying is true. You DO get what you pay for. The only downfall I've run into is that sometimes it counts steps while driving. That's the ONLY reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating.

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly accurate and convenient.   September 4, 2008
I couldn't be happier with my choice of the Omron HJ-112 over one of the more basic models.

This unit tracks not only regular steps and miles but also aerobic steps (10 minutes at 60 steps/minute continuously) and estimates calories burned (though calories are only a rough estimation, of course). In addition, it stores this data for each of the last 7 days, resetting to zero at midnight (I believe). It doesn't adjust to DST as only the time is set, not the date.

It's very easy to use. It's also easy enough to set up if you follow the instructions but it isn't particularly intuitive. The only things you need to enter are the time (to keep track of the days), your weight (to track calories), and the length of your stride (to calculate miles). The most complicated aspect is measuring your stride, and even this isn't especially difficult, but there's no way around it if you care to have it calculate miles with a reasonable degree of accuracy.

Which brings me to to the most important feature:

I tested it several times while counting my steps through my house (about 100 steps each time) with ocassional turns and each time the pedometer came up with the same number of steps as I counted (or at least within one or two). I tried it both clipped to my wasteband and carrying it in my purse. I'm more than satisfied with its accuracy. It doesn't claim to be accurate with irregular movements (such as shuffling through a crowed train station or playing tennis), but I wouldn't expect this.

I have not tested the accuracy of the mile counter but I will one day.

As for convenience, one of my favorite features is that I can leave it in my purse and it will still count my steps. You only have to secure it in a place where it will be positioned acceptably. For instance, it will not work lying flat.

My least favorite part, and this is a minor issue, is that although the unit itself is fairly compact, it's slightly bulky with the clip attached. But it weighs less than 2 or 3 quarters so this too is a small price to pay. The belt clip seems sturdy, as does the unit itself. The strap clip is highly questionable and it works unconventionally, but it isn't an essential element (I'm assuming it's just for added security if you carry it in a loose bag or pocket) and can be replaced with something else.

For me, the pros FAR outweigh any minor cons, which are not even real cons -- just things I personally wish were different.

5 out of 5 stars Best pedometer ever   September 3, 2008
I love this pedometer. This is my 4th different pedometer and I have finally found one I like. With the extra strap it never falls off and I like seeing what I've done for the past 7 days as well. I also like the fact that I can put it in my pocket and it still works. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific pedometer.   September 2, 2008
This is a great pedometer for the money. It keeps track of steps, miles, calories, and kilometers for the day and gives a weekly total. It is easy to set up and stays securely with 2 clips on your waist or in your pocket. I know several people who use this brand and everyone swears by it.
