What are the advantages of GolfLogix GPS versus other yardage devices? A handheld GPS device, such as GolfLogix GPS, offers more flexibility during a typical round of golf. You can bring the GPS to the ball and get more accurate distance data. Unlike other laser devices, there is no need to point and aim or have a direct line of sight to the hazard or hole. How do I get golf course maps on my GolfLogix GPS? Included with your initial purchase is access to download a single golf course map of your choice. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the Quick Start Guide located in the box to download the Course Manager Software from the GolfLogix Web site. Then follow the registration and activation screens on your computer to obtain your free golf course map. With a $29.95 annual membership, you can download an unlimited amount of golf courses worldwide (currently more than 15,000 in the database) and have access to GolfLogix product enhancements and upgrades. Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations? The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Golfers should check with their golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event. GPS devices have always been permitted in handicap scoring in recreational rounds. What's in the Box? GolfLogix GPS, USB cable, belt/bag clip, 2 AA alkaline batteries, printed instructions

Golf Distance Made Simple January 8, 2009 I have seen other more expensive and difficult to use GPS systems and this device surpasses them. It's easy to use. I threw it to my buddy during a round so he could measure the length of his drive and when he tossed it back it was already reset for the distance for my shot, he followed the simple instructions. It may not be as detailed as some of the other more expensive units but it sure met my expectations. The battery life was almost four rounds and when I inserted some new batteries it took me right back to the correct course and hole. I've already recommended it to two friends.
Pleased January 6, 2009 This product is so easy to use and very accurate on the course. I like the easy download feature for adding courses. All my golfing buddies want to trade in their SkyCaddies and get the GolfLogix unit. Also the fact that it uses AA batteries is an absolute plus as my buddies sometimes do not fully charge their SkyCaddies and can't complete their rounds. I would recommend the GolfLogix to anyone.
Other reviewers were right January 3, 2009 Just bought the GPS8 and used it once. Was very frustrated when I first tried to register and download courses. Tried it on both Mac and PC computers with no luck. Of course it was over the weekend so I had to wait until Monday to get tech support. After a long wait on hold I finally got to talk to tech support. They were great! The problem was the USB connection to the GPS unit. I thought it was connected well but it wasn't. Once I got that connected, tech support helped me get the GPS working on both computers. Downloading 20 courses was a breeze. Once I got to the course, the unit worked as advertised. Easy to read in bright sunlight. Distances were spot on. All automatic, no buttons to push. Knowing the exact distance for club selection helped save 5-6 strokes.
Every Player Should be Required to Have One! January 1, 2009 I received the GolfLogix GPS as a unexpected Xmas present from my wife and got to use it for the first time yesterday. This unit saved me from some poor decisions just by presenting the layup options and hazard locations. Decision making is also quick and easy as you know the distances before looking for sprinkler heads and other markers. It really speeds up the game! I would highly recommend to all golfers and golf courses, 5 Stars
Problems with Mac December 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
GolfLogix says it works with Mac OS X, but I found out otherwise. Turned it on and registered the unit with GolfLogix. The software immediately downloaded and installed a firmware update. After installation, it wouldn't turn on. GolfLogix customer service says this is a known, common problem with their software on Macs. Had to return the unit for replacement.
I'd recommend registration and software updates with MS Windows.
Customer support was good, but a long wait on the phone.
